Flood Rescue by Indian Navy Teams in Uttara Kannada District

Indian Naval diving teams deployed in Uttar Kannada and Belgavi districts continued to battle heavy rains necessitating more intense rescue efforts. Incessant heavy downpour in these areas has resulted in water levels rising considerably with strong currents making rescue efforts more challenging.

The teams deployed in Mallapur village near Kadra evacuated nearly 450 personnel to safety whilst other team operating from Kaiga evacuated 300 personnel to safety bringing total number of rescued personnel in this area alone to 2219.

In addition to the naval helicopter operating from Belgavi, another naval helicopter was mobilised to Karwar to render assistance to marooned villagers in the upper reaches of Gangavalli river. The crew made several attempts to reach these villages but encountered severe weather forcing them to return to Karwar. The crew have quickly readied the aircraft and awaiting improvement in weather to resume relief operations in these hilly areas. The helicopter operating from Belgavi rescued 36 personnel requiring immediate assistance to safety.
