Felicitation of Gallantry Awardees

As part of celebrations of the 75th Independence Anniversary of India’s Independence, Indian Navy has been organising felicitation ceremonies for Veteran Gallantry Awardees throughout the country. Commodore N Anil J Joseph, Commanding Officer, INS Venduruthy felicitated Shri K Balakrishnan, GREF, AE (Civil), Shaurya Chakra on 14 August 2021 on behalf of SNC. He was awarded the gallantry award for his involvement during natural calamity in Lahaul and Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh whilst posted there. He undertook snow clearance operation during heavy snow fall and under conditions of sub-zero temperature and continuous snow blizzards. During his supervision of this task, he almost lost his life, had he not been rescued by a GREF employee, who by chance was working nearby. An interaction with NCC cadets, school children, sailors and officers was also organised after the felicitation ceremony to motivate and inspire the young generation.
