Indian Navy undertook overseeing the construction a ship for Mauritius National Coast Guard. The ship named ‘Barracuda’ and was built at GRSE, Kolkata and delivered on 20 Dec 14. On a request by Mauritius, Indian Navy oversaw the construction, testing, trials and certification requirements of the ship. Key personnel of the ship underwent on-job training onboard Indian Navy ships. Before departing for Mauritius, Indian Navy undertook work-up and staff checks of the ship’s crew.  

Indian Navy’s helicopters undertook deck flight operations to prove the ship’s ability to undertake flying operations. Barracuda was escorted by INS Sunayna during her maiden passage from India to Mauritius. The ship was commissioned into National Coast Guard, Mauritius on 12 Mar 15 in a ceremony attended by the Prime Ministers of Mauritius and India. The ship has a mixed crew of Indian Navy and Mauritius Coast Guard personnel. An Indian Navy officer is presently commanding the ship.
