Coastal Security Awareness Campaign Conducted at Kollam District

A Coastal Security Awareness campaign was conducted to enhance security consciousness amongst the fishermen at Kollam District on 16 and 17 December 2019. The camp were held at fishing harbours at Vaddy, Shakthikulangara, Neendakara and Azheekal. Representatives from District Administration Kollam, Department of Fisheries and Coastal Police participated in the campaign. Importance of bio-metric cards and carrying of valid papers by fishing boats, including personnel being hired from outside the state, role of fishermen and local populace as the ‘eyes and ears’ of security agencies in reporting suspicious activities, implementation of color coding scheme for fishing boats, reporting methodology of suspicious activities including use of toll free numbers, use of Indian Coast Guard toll free number 1054 for SAR, use of Coastal Police toll free number 1093 for reporting Coastal Security matters and communication discipline on MMB channels were some of the topics that were discussed at the camps.
