Clearance Diving Unit Treated a Foreign Tourist of Decompression Sickness at Port Blair

The Clearance Diving Unit (Port Blair) treated a foreign tourist of decompression sickness. He developed symptoms of decompression while diving off Havelock and was transferred to CDU (PBR) with complaints of Knee Joints pain, numbness of limbs, and tingling over head and neck. The patient was administered Hyperbaric Recompression Therapy for 6 hours and 25 minutes and 5 hour 35 minutes on successive days in the Recompression Chamber at CDU (PBR) in consultation with Senior Marine Medicine specialist. A senior diving supervisor of the unit controlled the Chamber and Recompression procedure along with 06 clearance divers from CDU (PBR). On completion of the therapy, significant improvement was observed in the patient’s health and he was subsequently shifted to GB Pant Hospital for further recovery.
