Blood Donation Camp by the Navy
A Blood Donation Camp was organised by Indian Navy at Bheemunipatnam, Visakhapatnam to mark the 31st anniversary of INS Kalinga on 21st October 16. The camp was inaugurated by Surgeon Rear Admiral UK Sharma, Command Medical Officer (CMO) Eastern Naval Command. CMO along with Commodore Praveen Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of INS Kalinga & Captain Varun Singh, SC, Commanding Officer of INS Karna initiated the camp by donating blood.
The camp witnessed overwhelming response from amongst the navy and defence civilian personnel and their families. The blood donation camp was meticulously organized as humanitarian effort in collaboration with A S Raja Blood Bank and will go a long way in ensuring saving of lives. Nearly 100 units of blood was donated voluntarily and was handed over to A S Raja Blood Bank.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Surgeon Rear Admiral UK Sharma, Command Medical Officer, Eastern Naval Command stressed on the need to build awareness about voluntary blood donation and highlighted that each unit of blood can be separated into its components thereby multiplying number of lives saved manifold. He opined that many more such camps should be organized in the city.
