The Admiral AK Chatterji fellowship has been instituted by the National Maritime Foundation in honour of Late Admiral AK Chatterji who was the Chief of Naval Staff from March 1966 to February 1970; he was the first Chief of the rank of Admiral in the Indian Navy. He joined the Royal Indian Navy in 1933 and witnessed the action of World War-II. A book release function was organised at the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), here, on 22nd of Nov, which also happens to be the birth anniversary of the Admiral wherein a book titled ‘Prosperous Nation Building through Shipbuilding’ authored by the first Admiral AK Chatterji fellow, Cdr S Navaneetha Krishnan.

Cdr S Navaneetha Krishnan had undertaken research on Shipbuilding Industry under the aegis of the NMF and the book release is a culmination of his work. The book was released by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral DK Joshi, in the presence of Admiral (retd) Sureesh Mehta, Chairman of NMF, Director and Executive Director of NMF and several senior serving, retired naval officers and civilians.

The book ‘Prosperous Nation Building through Shipbuilding’ highlights the manner in which the shipbuilding industry can propel the manufacturing sector of a country, which can in turn bring prosperity to a nation. The book also highlights the glorious history of shipping and shipbuilding in India, and brings out the present status of the Indian and global shipbuilding industry.

The second Admiral AK Chatterji fellowship for 2012–14 was awarded to Cdr AP Golaya during the ceremony. The officer shall undertake research on the topic ‘Game Changer: Game Theory & its Application to Anti-Piracy, Maritime Terrorism & Low Intensity Maritime Operations’.
