As a part of the Navy Week celebrations a Health Camp was organised by the Navy at village Akhepura near Jaipur about 300 Kms from Delhi on 08 & 09 Dec 2003. The camp was inaugurated by Admiral Madhvendra Singh PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff in presence of Lt Gen BN Shahi PVSM, AVSM, VSM, PHS, DGAFMS and Surg VAdm VK Singh AVSM, VSM, DGMS (Navy). Specialists in Medicine, Surgery, Eye, ENT, Gynaecology, Dermatology, Dental, Paediatrics and Radiology from the Navy participated in the camp. Laboratory services, field sonography, minor OT and pharmacy were extended to almost 3500 local people who came to, the camp with variety of ailments.
The aims for holding the camp were use of integrated medical facilities of the Armed Forces Medical Services, to provide specialist facilities and medical aid to the poor and the needy, to create health awareness in the area covered and to establish rapport between the Armed Forces Medical Services and local civilian population.
Besides medical aid, useful household gifts were distributed to the poorest people of the area. The camp was stocked with an adequate stock of a variety of drugs which where distributed freely to all the people who needed them.
The one noteworthy feature of the camp was the integrated nature of the Armed Forces Medical Services and long reach of such co-operation, resulting in wide scale benefits to local populations.
Tri service health camps in field area, deserts, high altitude areas, Counter Intelligence operational areas and remote coastal areas are being planned in the future, as doctors have the ability, confidence and skill to bring togetherness amongst people of all strata of society.
