RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY INDIAN NAVY

As of today a total of 16 ships, 11 helicopters and 2 fixed wing aircraft of the Indian Navy are engaged in the Tsunami rehabilitation operations. In addition, the naval bases located near the Tsunami hit areas have been rendering immense contribution towards expediting the process of restoring normalcy.  Over 2500 Indian Naval personnel are committed to these operations.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Op SEA WAVES)

IN Ships Sandhayak, LCU 34 and LCU 38 completed beach survey off Terassa Island. ‘Safed Balu’ Village of Tarassa has been identified as suitable for making pontoon jetty.INS Sandhayak also assisted DGLH staff and restored 12 lights including Indira Point Light House in Nicobar group.

INS Tillangchang, at Kamorta, carried out a 'casuality evacuation' ex-Katchall on 21 Jan 05. The ship continues to provide relief effort.

INS Darshak (with Chetak helecopter) carried out  joint survey off Nancowry with Survey of India Teams.

 INS Trinkat is at Carnic to deliver LPG cylinders.

INS Nirupak did survey of Havelock, Neil Jetty and approaches.

Kanyakumari (Op MADAD)

       INS Nirdeshak is carrying out survey off Kolachal and Kanyakumari.

Assistance to Sri Lanka (Op RAINBOW)

INS Taragiri established a new medical camp at Veragoda and examined 130 patients at Kahawe and Veragoda. Other tasks undertaken by the ship are as follows :-

Trincomalee

INS Jamuna continues to be at Trincomalee for providing medical treatment and to coordinate relief operations. Relief and medical efforts in camps at Kuchuveli, and Uppaveli are continuing. A total of 86 OPD patients including two acute cases of Gluteal Abcess and Bronchial Asthma were attended to by the Medical Group.

Relief Assistance to Maldives (Op CASTOR)

INS Udaygiri is at Male for providing relief assistance. The ship has one Chetak helecopter embarked onboard.
