INTEGRATED HEADQUARTERS OF MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (NAVY)
RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY INDIAN NAVY
As of today a total of 22 ships, 13 helicopters and 4 fixed wing aircraft of the Indian Navy are engaged in the rehabilitation operations. In addition, the naval bases located near the Tsunami hit areas have been rendering immense contribution towards expediting the process of restoring normalcy. Over 4300 Indian Naval personnel are committed to these operations. Approximately 40 Tons of relief supplies (like Tents, Gensets, Desalination Plants, Blankets, etc), including Four Tons of medicines have been delivered by the naval ships and aircraft to the affected areas in the past 24 hours.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Op SEA WAVES)
INS Rajput, off Campbell Bay, has evacuated 21 personnel including 08 ladies and 11 children from Shastri Nagar to Campbell Bay and three personnel from Gandhi Nagar to Campbell Bay.
INS Brahmaputra, at Nancowry, has set up two medical camps at Katchall and transferred BSNL staff to Teressa.
INS Magar and INS Tillangchang are carrying out relief operations at Nancowry.
IN Ships Cheetah, LCU 36 and LCU 34 are at Hut Bay for disembarkation of relief stores.
INS Sandhayak (with Chetak helecopter) is engaged in repair of navigational aids / lights in the Southern Group of Islands. The Rutland and North Brother light houses have been made operational.
INS Darshak (with Chetak) is assisting the Survey of India for carrying survey of the Northern Group of Islands.
Assistance to Sri Lanka (Op RAINBOW)
INS Sharda (OPV), with Chetak helecopter embarked, is at Galle and has undertaken following relief activities:-Galle
Technical Assistance A team of 10 personnel from the ship preserved one Yanmar 3 cylinder engine, dismantled winch of sailing boat and dismantled engine for overhaul, in aid to the fisheries department.
Medical Assistance The Medical Officer of the ship attended to 176 patients at Closenberg camp. The cases include skin infection, respiratory infection, abrasions, diabetes mellitus and cardio-vascular problems.
Rehabilitation Work A team from the ship with Indian Army engineers undertook debris clearance at Telavatha relief camp.Colombo
INS Nirdeshak
disembarked 40 tons of relief supplies and 4 tons of medical & hygiene supplies at Colombo.INS Sarvekshak has completed setting up of the DGPS station and reported commencement of tidal observations in KKS harbour. Sounding operation and side scanning is in progress.
Islander One Islander aircraft if the Indian Navy, based at Colombo, ferried a UNDP official, a British doctor and two SLAN personnel from China Bay and Ampara to Ratnamala air base.
Trincomalee
INS Jamuna continues to be at Trincomalee for providing medical treatment to the affected people and to co-ordinate relief operations ashore. Efforts are being made to make the water of 10 wells potable.Relief Assistance to Maldives (Op CASTOR)
ICGS Vigraha and one Dornier aircraft continues to be deployed in Maldives to support relief operations at various islands.
Indonesia (Op GAMBHIR)
(Hospital Ship) with Chetak helecopter, off Meulaboh (Indonesia), is operating a Medical camp and also providing medical support at the General Hospital.INS Nirupak
