The
National Hydrographic School at picturesque Goa,
trains officers, sailors and civilian personnel
from India and abroad. The Institute is well
equipped to provide theoretical and practical
training as per the IHO/FIG approved category
"A"/ "B" certified courses
and has ISO-9001 certification for excellence in
training. It is the regional training centre
with many trainees from the littoral region.
The
Marine Cartography training is provided at Dehra
Dun by experienced and qualified cartographers
to meet the International chart specifications,
both in paper and digital forms.
The
National Hydrographic School, an ISO-9001
certified Hydrographic training institution, is
located at Goa. The school conducts courses for
Hydrographic Officers, Technicians, Civilians
and for personnel from abroad. The Long and
Basic hydrographic Specialisation Courses
conducted by the school have been awarded the
Category ‘A’ and Category ‘B’
Certifications respectively by the FIG/IHO
International Advisory Board on Standards of
Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors, a working
Group of the International Hydrographic
Organisation, which is responsible for
regulating/ standardising Hydrographic training
world-wide. The Certifications so awarded also
cover the options "Nautical Charting
Hydrography", "Hydrography for Coastal
Zone Management", "Offshore Seismic
Surveying" and "Offshore Construction
Hydrography" for the Long Hydrographic
Course and options "Nautical Charting
Hydrography", "Hydrography for Coastal
Zone Management", "Offshore Seismic
Surveying" and "Remote Sensing"
for the Basic Hydrographic Course, under the
latest Edition 8.0 of the Standards stipulated
by the FIG/IHO International Advisory Board. The
syllabi for the courses are constantly reviewed
and modified to keep abreast of the
International Standards of Competence for
Hydrographic Surveyors promulgated by the
International Hydrographic Organisation from
time to time. The school has been classified as
the Regional Hydrographic Training Centre for
Africa, Persian Gulf and South East Asian
region. The school has already trained more than
200 trainees from abroad.
