1. Vice Admiral Anup
Singh, the Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command was commissioned in
the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1973. A specialist in Navigation and
Direction, he has held a mix of operational, staff and instructional
appointments, prior to taking over as the Commander-in-Chief.
2. During his career, Vice Admiral Anup Singh has
commanded four ships of different classes and capabilities. In fact, he
has been the commissioning Commanding Officer of two ships that is INS
Veer, a missile vessel and INS Delhi, the first indigenously designed
and built destroyer of 6700 tons displacement. His last operational
appointment was Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet where he led
Operation SUKOON, involving the evacuation of civilians from war-torn
Lebanon in July 2006.
3. Ashore, Vice Admiral Anup Singh has held Command/
Staff appointments including Assistant Controller of Carrier Projects
and Warship Production and Acquisitions at Naval Headquarters; Chief
Instructor (Navy) at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington;
Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command; Assistant Chief of Naval Staff
(Air); Deputy Chief of Naval Staff; Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence
Staff (Ops), Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff. In his capacity as
the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, he was primarily responsible to
maritime operations in all three domains, Foreign Cooperation,
Intelligence, Communications as well as acquisition of Naval Aviation
assets and for laying down the long-term vision for naval aviation. In
his capacity as DCIDS (Ops)/HQIDS, he was responsible for resolving
joint operations issues of the three Services as also, issues of the
Andaman & Nicobar Command.
4. Vice Admiral Anup Singh is a keen sportsman and
adventurer. He was the Sailing Master of the first ever square-rigged
Sail Training Vessel ‘Varuna’ in 1980-82. He also skippered the Naval
Yatch ‘Samudra’ for the Pacific crossing during her round-the-world
voyage in 1989. He is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the
Nao Sena Medal.
