WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND



       Vice Admiral DK Joshi is a specialist in Anti Submarine Warfare and a graduate of the Staff Course from Naval War College, USA. He is also an alumnus of College of Naval Warfare (NHCC), Mumbai & NDC, and New Delhi.

      The Flag Officer has commanded three frontline ships in the Western Fleet viz. the Missile Corvette Kuthar, the Kashin Class Destroyer Ranvir and the Aircraft Carrier Viraat. He was awarded NM, VSM & YSM respectively during these Command assignments. He was subsequently appointed Fleet Commander of the Eastern Fleet, during which he was awarded AVSM. His instructional tenure includes Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, both as Directing Staff as well as Senior Instructor (Navy). He also served as the Defence Advisor in Singapore, with concurrent accreditation to the Philippines. His staff appointments in Naval Headquarters include posts of ACOP (HRD), ACNS (IWOPS), ACCP and Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff. He has also served as a Principal Staff Officer in Joint Staff in HQ IDS heading initially the Doctrine/Training branch and later the Operations branch.

      The Flag Officer has subsequently served as Commander-in-Chief of the joint services Andaman & Nicobar Command and was awarded the PVSM. He has also served as Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman COSC (CISC) at HQ IDS. He took over as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command on 30 Apr 11.
